Gamla stan: Stockholm’s old town

Due to the pandemic, we cannot go to far off places, this gave me a wonderful time to explore Stockholm. Due to the pandemic, we cannot go to far off places, this gave me a wonderful time to explore Stockholm. Stockholm is known for its rich cultural heritage, the architecture of the buildings, and museums. But it also houses one of the city’s earliest settlements, still featuring the medieval street layout. Yes, you have taken the right guess, this post is about Stockholm’s oldest town Gamla stan.

Stockholm was founded back in 1252, starting from Gamla stan. Gamla stan houses the Nobel Museum, Stockholm Cathedral, and the clocktower. Not to forget, one of the famous attractions in the World the Royal Palace. Gamla Stan is also popular among tourists because of its handicraft, and souvenir shops. The streets present a very colourful and magical outlook comparable to those in a fairy tale.

Gamla stan: The perfect place

If you are in Stockholm and happen to be a coffee lover this place is for you. Sweden is well known for the highest coffee consumption & its vivacious coffee culture. You must have come across the Swedish word Fika”. It means “to have a coffee” but it is more of social activity to meet up with friends and family. So, while being here and wanting to enjoy the European culture with narrow lanes, old buildings, visit Gamla stan.

You can also stop by the mesmerizing smell of coffee all around, and visit the cafe of your choice. It will give you a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. Enjoy the serene and calm views while you are at cafes and eateries. The cherry on the cake, eating, and talking to friends while the surrounding water holds your gaze. Not to forget the old monuments explicitly explaining Sweden’s rich culture.

Perfect evening and hot chocolate in the open cafe: Chokladkoppen

There are many outdoor cafes and restaurants around the place. My personal favorite is the one at Stortorget, Gamla stan’s main plaza, the Chokladkoppen. The place becomes more lively during the evenings. It is an outdoor café and serves some amazing beverages. The best being the hot chocolate in a fancy ceramic bowl, enjoyed with friends or family on a pleasant evening.

After, enjoying the drink you can take a walk and sit beside the scenic view of the waterfront. It welcomes you to witness an incredibly beautiful sunset later in the evening. So, while the summer ends soon, I would suggest you spend one weekend exploring the streets of the old town. Not forgetting to enjoy a coffee while the pleasant wind brushes through your hair.
