Living cheaply in Sweden is possible I promise! When I first moved to Sweden I saw that everything here is much more expensive than in my home country. But doesn’t have to be very expensive if you know how to live cheap in this country. I would like to share some advice on where to buy cheaper food and how to live cheaply in Sweden.
Saving 1 kronor per item adds up – and if you buy lots and save 1 kronor per item it can save you 1,000 or 10,000 kr or even more per year. This is money you can use for a great trip or whatever you want to do with it.
So let’s start with my first advice.
Today I will recommend a cheap food store! There are lot’s of food stores in Sweden, for example, ICA, Hemköp and Coop. I find that the prices at these stores often are high. So Id like to recommend stores that are cheaper such as Lidl, Willys and Matrebellerna and in my opinion, of very good quality too! But where are these shops located? They are easy to find, just check their websites or download their apps on your smartphone.

- Materbellerna (No app) (On this website there are also lots of stores with different names that are joined with Matrebellerna)
Don’t forget to download the store apps too because they have good deals every week. If you don’t like to have too many apps in your smartphone I would recommend the app Matpriskollen – however, the app is in Swedish. But if you can read some Swedish (or if you want to practice) this app shows you the deal of the week from the store of your choice.
This is my small advice about food stores. Next time I will write about more ways to save money so follow for more advice.

Willys is good value and their cheapest brand products (Eldorado & Garant) are much better quality than the ‘value’ brands in the UK which are all offcuts, water and floor sweepings… I think looking in the free advert papers for deals of the week is helpful too, and joining free loyalty schemes like Willys+. Looking forward to more tips 🙂
Local Asian and Arab grocery stores and Frukt & Grönt Hallen have much better prices than chains for food, while toilet paper, household cleaner, etc. Is cheapest at Rusta, Lidl, and ÖöB.
