Which driving licenses are valid in Sweden?

All driving licenses issued within the EEA are valid in Sweden as long as they are valid in the country where they were issued.

Do you have a valid driving license in Sweden? All driving licenses issued within the European Economic Area, the EEA, are valid in Sweden as long as they are valid in the country where they were issued – no matter how long you stay in Sweden.

The EEA countries are: Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Croatia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Austria.

If you have an EEA driving license, you may even be allowed to be a private driving tutor – handledare – if you – obviously – meet the necessary requirements.

The Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen) and the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), share the responsibilities for all traffic and driving related issues in Sweden. Körkortsportalen is their common webpage, with all kinds of information you may need about driving licenses.
